1983 to 2003: President of Roof Technical Services, Inc. (ROOFTECH), an engineering firm specializing in roofing and renovation. ROOFTECH was founded by Stephen L. Patterson, P.E. in 1983 and is one of the oldest and largest roof consulting firms in the Southwest with a clientele that includes Texas Christian University, American Airlines, United States Postal Service, United States General Services Administration, University of Texas Health Science Center, Tarrant County, and numerous independent school districts in Texas.
1981 to 1983: Technical Director and Divisional Manager for Monroe, Inc., a "Roof Management Company" involved in the manufacture and installation of a broad line of roofing products, including maintenance materials, built-up roofing, and PVC and modified bitumen single-ply roofing systems.
1973 to 1981: Director of Engineering for Southwestern Petroleum Corporation, an international manufacturer of roofing materials including built-up roofing and single-ply roofing systems, as well as a line of roof maintenance systems. Also, worked as General Manager of ROOFTECH in a dual role from 1974 to 1979 (see below).
1974 to 1979: General Manager of ROOFTECH, Inc. (a solely owned subsidiary of Southwestern Petroleum), a full-service roofing and sheet metal contracting firm installing all types of commercial, industrial, and residential roofing and sheet metal.
1971 to 1973: Project Manager and for Crowe Gulde Inc. a manufacturer of precast pre-stressed concrete products and building systems. Performed a variety of engineering duties including structural design, estimation, and project management.
Mr. Patterson's experience and training are virtually unsurpassed in the roofing field. He has been extensively involved in the research and development of roof coatings, single-ply roofing, and built-up roofing, having traveled much of the world investigating and solving roofing problems. He has evaluated and designed virtually all types of roofing systems, including built-up, metal, tile, slate, composition, single-ply, and sprayed-in-place polyurethane foam. Mr. Patterson has written extensively and has taught numerous continuing education courses on a variety of roofing issues.
